Wallace

In August 2022 we were called out on many occasions to help catch 3 donkeys wandering the country lanes. It’s amazing they didn’t cause an accident or get hurt. They were shy, scared of people, and just ran off whenever we approached them. The mayors of two communes were involved in trying to safeguard the donkeys but the owner just wasn’t interested and refused to mend his fences. After many failed attempts we caught them and moved Wallace, Basil, and Violet to a place of safety.

Violet came here in November and in December 2022 we moved Wallace and Basil from their temporary safe place to our lovely Sandra and her husband Kevin’s place as they had kindly offered to foster them until a 5* forever home can be found.

Wallace was born in 2015 and is the daddy of baby Harley and quite possibly Violet too. He was still a stallion when we rescued him, but vets prefer to castrate donkeys of his age at the hospital. We knew this wouldn’t be possible as they couldn’t go together and we really couldn’t separate them, so 2 vets and our very own retired vet nurse Jo performed the op and all went well. They are still a bit nervous, especially with men, but they are very kind and gentle.

In a couple of months, Basil and Wallace will make the 5-minute journey to live with Caz and Bob. Caz volunteers at HeeHaws and can’t wait to have 2 beautiful donkeys of her own to cherish ❤️
