Dental treatment

65

Equines need to have their teeth checked every two years, for older animals or those with difficulties with their teeth, this can be needed more frequently.  In addition to checking for particular problems – such as gaps, missing or broken teeth, ramps and hooks at the front and back of the molars – even a healthy mouth can develop sharp points on the molars that dig into the sides of the mouth and tongue, these need to be rasped for the confort of the animal.  Depending on the amount of work to do and the level of handling of the donkey, they are sometimes sedated for dentist treatment.  Some donkeys that we see have never had their teeth looked at and these donkeys generally need more regular treatments to correct problems.
