So come on enter the competition and get baking. - [Basil & Wallace](https://heehaws.fr/basil-wallace/): In August 2022 we were called out on many occasions to help catch 3 donkeys wandering the country lanes. It’s amazing they didn’t cause an accident or get hurt. They were shy, scared of people, and just ran off whenever we approached them. The mayors of two communes were involved in trying to safeguard the donkeys but the owner just wasn’t interested and refused to mend his fences. Our beautiful Blossom lived at the same place with her foal Harley but kept Harley safe by staying put, even though it meant she had little to no food. Desperate for food, […] - [Blossom & Harley](https://heehaws.fr/blossom-harley/): In August 2022 we were called out on many occasions to help catch 3 donkeys wandering the country lanes. We immediately arranged […] - [Bill](https://heehaws.fr/bill/): In February 24 we were contacted by someone with an incredibly sad story. They got their donkeys, Bill and Ben, (brothers born on the same day to different mums) when they were 8 years old. They had a great life together until one day, after no warning whatsoever, and now aged 34, Ben suddenly died one night leaving Bill bereft and everyone in shock. With Bill grieving, his owners were very worried about Bill getting Hyperlaepemia which can actually be life threatening.  Time was of the essence and with no compatible donkey available as a companion for Bill, we decided […] - [Jacob & Oscar](https://heehaws.fr/jacob-oscar-rollo/): Who is this gorgeous little duo? What a shock that one has such short ears 😘 Well this is Jacob the donkey and his friend Oscar the Shetland. Oscar may have little ears but they really are the very best of friends. Their elderly owner desperately needed our help and after much discussion, we felt we just had to help, and so here they are. Unfortunately we thought Oscar just needed steamed hay to help his allergy but after many vet visits, puffs of ventolin and all sort of other medication, we felt it wasn’t just hay and we were […] - [Fern & Woody](https://heehaws.fr/fern-woody/): Fern and Woody were 2 gorgeous young donkeys that were abandoned in a forest, just left there to fend for themselves. They were afraid of people and especially the farrier. They had  issues around having their feet trimmed, but we and the farrier  worked very hard to teach them that it can be a kind and easy experience. They were firm favourites of the volunteers and visitors. They just loved their groom and cuddle and adored children too. Fern would literally lay her head in your arms for a snuggle❤️ In October 2023 we found the most fabulous home for […] - [Beatrice](https://heehaws.fr/beatrice-2/): 1979-2023 In May 2019 Beatrice arrived here at Heehaws with her friend Bluebelle. She was in a very sorry state. She had lice and was very thin. She also had a skin condition, but with all the HeeHaws care, love, lotions, and potions lavished on her, she soon looked as amazing as her field mates Duchesse and Princesse!  Our lovely, very woolly Beatrice, aged 40 something was quite the character and became a firm favourite with everyone that met her. She remained a healthy loving, funny member of our donkey family until one bank holiday Saturday in November 2023. Our […] - [Smartie](https://heehaws.fr/smartie/): In the blossoming month of April 2023, a delightful little foal captured our hearts. His story began when his loving mother, gave birth to him and then fell terribly ill. Tragically, just a month later, this tiny foal found himself utterly alone in a vast field, his mother miles away seeking treatment, and his older brother rehomed.  With his mother’s future uncertain due to a liver condition, this poor orphaned soul had been relying on his elderly owner to bottle-feed him. But as time passed, caring for him grew overwhelming.  We couldn’t stand idly by. Despite being at capacity, we […] - [Pauline](https://heehaws.fr/pauline/): In December 2022, a local friend rode past a little donkey whose feet were in the worst state yet that we’ve had to deal with.  As soon as we heard, we got straight onto it, and with the help of a few people, we were able to get our lovely Gareth round there. It was a delicate situation with the owner as he was elderly and not in good health. We met Pauline, the sweetest kindest girl, hobbling on her terribly deformed feet. Gareth did all he could, and already this darling girl was feeling better and nowhere near as […] - [Rupert](https://heehaws.fr/rupert/): Darling Rupert was born on 7th July 2023. His mum Blossom had given birth 5 times before that we know of. However, she didn’t have an easy delivery and we had to step in and help.  Rupert arrived a big healthy foal and was standing and feeding as he should in no time. He’s growing by the day and is going to be a BIG stocky donkey, just like his daddy Wallace and siblings Basil and Harley. He’s very friendly and loves a fuss. We will post updates about him in the News on here or you can see regular […] - [Theo and Willow](https://heehaws.fr/theo-and-willow/): Theo & Willow were both born here at HeeHaws. The fate that had been awaiting their mums, Lottie and Holly, doesn’t bear thinking about. When they arrived here, already in foal, they were very nervous around people. It took quite some time to help them learn to trust but thankfully we worked our magic and they improved hugely before their foals were born. Of course, their babies had no fear as they were born at HeeHaws! Willow was a cheeky little rascal from the age of 6 weeks. Theo was very laid back and kind. They were weaned from their […] - [Florence and Betty](https://heehaws.fr/florence-and-betty/): Betty and Florence arrived here with Maggie and Mabel, in June 2021. Headed for the meat wagon they were intercepted thankfully and came here, to a place of love and safety. Given what they had been through, these young donkeys were very kind and trusting. We always ensure that all the donkeys that leave here for their forever homes, are well-behaved for the vet and farrier, and are used to being groomed and loved. These 2 girls were given all of that love and care, responding really well to it. In November 2022 they went to their forever home with […] - [Melanie](https://heehaws.fr/melanie/): HeeHaws Vet We’ve been very fortunate at HeeHaws to have such knowledgeable, sympathetic, and kind vets. Quite recently Melanie was taken on as the dedicated equine vet for her practice and she is no exception. The donkeys love her and she has a true understanding of them which is quite unique to find. We are lucky to have such a wonderful vet who seems to go the extra mile. ❤️  - [Dudley](https://heehaws.fr/dudley/): DUDLEY 1990 – 2021 Dudley and Dolly, a father and daughter, came here in October 2016,  before HeeHaws evolved. Aged 26 and 6, their elderly owner had Alzheimer’s and could no longer look after them. Dudley arrived with terrible issues with his hooves. They had been very very long and he obviously had bad memories of them being trimmed. With a lot of TLC from our fabulous farrier Gareth, Dudley was no longer afraid. He became a very kind and gentle boy. He loved his ginger biscuits, apples, carrots, and lots of cuddles. Sadly, one night in September 2021 Dudley […] - [Thomas](https://heehaws.fr/thomas/): Thomas 1980 – 2022 Thomas arrived here aged 42, terribly emaciated but with a strong character and the will to live.  From a life tied to a tree with no grass to eat, he spent his time here grazing in the sunshine, enjoying lots of small regular meals, and was cosseted by all of us at HeeHaws. We all loved him dearly.  However, the damp cold weather brought with it his suffering. Arthritis became evident and his body became weak. We gave him the best love and care that we could for the 3 weeks he was here but we […] - [Rosa](https://heehaws.fr/rosa/): Rosa 1997-2022 In October 2021 we were called out by an elderly lady whose donkey couldn’t stand up by herself. Once the donkey was helped up, she was strong and OK. She asked if we could help by taking the donkey as she was struggling. We arranged a visit and what we found was really quite shocking.  Rosa, aged 24 was skin and bone. The lady had had the dentist and a vet visit and, although the dentist did some necessary work we aren’t quite sure what the vet did other than recommend some dietary supplements. We said yes to […] - [Richard](https://heehaws.fr/richard/): My wife Sue ‘dragged me along’ to HeeHaws as she thought it would be good for me to do other things apart from our house restoration. I moaned a bit – well, you’ve got to eh?! – but I secretly love it. The donkeys are fantastic characters, it’s been really nice to get out and meet new people and it feels great doing something useful for a good cause. ❤️ - [Sue](https://heehaws.fr/sue/): After taking a break from work recently, I wanted to find something I could do that would still benefit others but without being too stressful for me. Because I’ve always adored donkeys I chose to volunteer at HeeHaws and it’s been brilliant. Loads of laughs with my fellow volunteers (and the donkeys!) and the fresh air and physical work has been great for both mind and body. I can heartily recommend it! ❤️ - [Keith](https://heehaws.fr/keith/): I just adore my Monday mornings at HeeHaws! It’s such a great start to my week !! ❤️  - [Shirley](https://heehaws.fr/shirley/): Hi, my name is Shirley. I have been living in France for 12 months and love volunteering at HeeHaws. I have ridden horses for most of my life, but love all animals large and small. ❤️ - [Woody](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-woody/): Woody arrived here with Fern on the 17th of February 2022. They had been found abandoned in a forest by a couple of young girls. The girls helped the donkeys and found them temporary accommodation. After contacting many other rescue organisations without any success or even replies, they contacted us. The situation was now desperate and we felt we had to help. Within no time at all they arrived here, thin and nervous.  We think Woody was born in 2018. He’s not as brave as Fern and takes a little longer to try new things and to trust people.  After […] - [William](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-william/): It was at a Farmer’s Market one chilly and rainy day in October 2017 when Carina, her husband Dave, and their friends Angie and Bill saw William. He was tied up with a horribly short rope and left in the rain. The shock they experienced was palpable and many tears were shed at his neglected state. He obviously wasn’t cared for in any way. He was so skinny you could count his ribs and he had scabby ears and legs. The friends didn’t need much persuading from each other to rescue him! With the wonderful help and support from amazing […] - [Wallace](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-wallace/): In August 2022 we were called out on many occasions to help catch 3 donkeys wandering the country lanes. It’s amazing they didn’t cause an accident or get hurt. They were shy, scared of people, and just ran off whenever we approached them. The mayors of two communes were involved in trying to safeguard the donkeys but the owner just wasn’t interested and refused to mend his fences. After many failed attempts we caught them and moved Wallace, Basil, and Violet to a place of safety. Violet came here in November and in December 2022 we moved Wallace and Basil […] - [Violet](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-violet/): VIOLET 2019 – 2023 Arriving at HeeHaws Looking content Being hand fed by Carina when so poorly Lots of love required to recover With Vera the chicken More love when better Back in the field with mum Blossom Laying down before giving birth In August 2022 we were called out on many occasions to help catch 3 donkeys wandering the country lanes. It’s amazing they didn’t cause an accident or get hurt. They were shy, scared of people, and just ran off whenever we approached them. The mayors of two communes were involved in trying to safeguard the donkeys but […] - [Tinkerbelle](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-tinkerbelle/): Our teeny tiny Tinkerbelle arrived here in June 2022, aged around 12. She had been bred but the breeder had got rid of her to a ruthless dealer who just didn’t care. She was underweight and had overgrown hooves. We were told she had been put in a cattle crush to have her feet trimmed, which must have been terrifying for her. We have found her to be a gentle soul and most surprisingly she loves Gareth, our farrier! Dolly and Perle took her under their hooves and she has became a teeny part of their herd, measuring just 94cm […] - [Thomas](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-thomas/) - [Teddy](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-teddy/): Teddy arrived at HeeHaws with Billy in the first week of January 2021. In contrast to Billy, Teddy was thin and had very overgrown feet. He had lice, worms, and an ulcerated mouth, so much so he could hardly eat.  It took many visits from the vet and Gareth to get Teddy feeling better. Before too long, Teddy put on weight and settled down quite quickly. He isn’t as nervous as Billy and we look forward to the day someone wants to give them their forever home.  If you would like to sponsor Teddy click here Arriving at HeeHaws Best […] - [Rosa](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-rosa/): In October 2021 we were contacted by en elderly lady whose donkey couldn’t stand up by herself. Once helped was up she was strong and ok. She asked if we could help by taking the donkey as she was struggling. We agreed to visit and what we found was really quite shocking!Rosa, aged 24 was skin and bone. The lady had had the dentist and a vet and although the dentist did some necessary work we weren’t quite sure what the vet did other than recommend some dietary supplements. We said yes, of course, this poor girl needed all the […] - [Rodney](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-rodney/): Rodney was reported to HeeHaws in May 2018 when someone saw him alone in a field, in a terrible state, in desperate need of help. His field was littered with barbed wire, broken glass, and all kinds of dangers for donkeys. He also had ‘Aladdins slipper’ type hooves. He had often been wrestled to the floor by a gang of men and had the tops of his hooves sawn off. This was not only cruel but very frightening for him. His hooves were very long, but it didn’t stop him from running away from people! Thankfully his owner no longer […] - [Rigalo](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-rigalo/): We saw an advert by a lady who was going back to the UK and needed a home for her 2 donkeys. We had empty paddocks at this point so we replied, saying that we would happily take them for her if no one else came forward. We never got a reply. Many months later, a friend asked if we would help her catch 60 Muscovy ducks that someone was getting rid of. She had a huge pond so had agreed to take them. They were shut in a barn, all we had to do was catch and box them. […] - [Princesse](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-princesse/): Princesse came to HeeHaws with her sister Duchesse in April 2019 all the way from Normandy!  It was a difficult journey but they made it eventually. Another donkey sanctuary in the UK called Flicka asked if HeeHaws could take them and save them from a terrible end. Flicka were kind enough to fund the transport. They had been loved up until 2012. After that, it became a little dark, and suffice to say they deteriorated to quite a desperate state. They were emaciated, had lice and worms, and were sad, hungry, and in need of a lot of love and […] - [Perle](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-perle/): Perle was born in 2009. She and her mum were owned and neglected by a breeder who passed them on to a lovely couple in 2020. Perle’s mum got quite sick in November 2021 and died 2 weeks later. Her owners had noticed that Perle had a lameness problem but even worse, got really depressed and took to laying down far too much. She was quite nervous too, having always lived in the shadow of her mum. So they contacted us and asked if we could help by taking Perle in. Our Dolly had not long lost her dad Dudley, […] - [Maggie & Mabel](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-maggie/): Darling Maggie and little Mabel arrived at HeeHaws with Betty and Florence in June 2021. Headed for the meat wagon they were intercepted thankfully and came here, to a place of love and safety. Mabel was only 5 when she arrived at HeeHaws, she was such a quiet, sweet soul. It turns out that with a bit of love, good food and freedom, she is actually very playful and mischievous. Maggie, born in 2015, like Mabel, has quite unusual markings (we are not sure if they are related), which include 2 beautiful heart shapes on her left side. Maggie is […] - [Mabel](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-mabel/): Little Mabel arrived here on the 7th of June 2021 with her friend Maggie (we are not sure if they’re related) and 2 others, Betty and Florence. All were headed for the meat lorry. That just doesn’t bear thinking about. Mabel was only 5 at the time and such a quiet sweet soul. It turns out that with a bit of love, good food, and freedom she’s actually very playful and mischievous. She loves Maggie and also loves to be brushed. She’s been known on more than one occasion to pull Gareth’s hat off his head and play with it! […] - [Lottie, Wilfred, Norman and Hector](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-meet-lottie-wilfred-norman-and-hector/): Lottie and Wilfred came to HeeHaws with their friends Norman and Hector, in February 2019, having had a very close call with the “meat man”. They had had a traumatic time and were all fearful in their own way. Wilfred didn’t like anyone to touch his legs and feet. Gareth spent a long time getting to know him and taught him quite quickly that he wasn’t going to be hurt and a few months later his very long distorted hooves were trimmed. Lottie was very fearful of humans and feed buckets. It took her a long time to settle here and […] - [Horace & Hetty](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-horace-hetty/): At the beginning of November 2019, we were asked to go to see two donkeys in a field an hour away. Nothing prepared us for what we were about to see and hear. Two lovely ladies who lived opposite the field discovered that not only had the owner died but 3 of his 5 donkeys had too, in the field! The two remaining donkeys, a young male, and a female were now neglected and very skinny and the male couldn’t walk. They called the vet (who treated the male for many abscesses) and then they called us. They also found […] - [Holly & Casper](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-holly-casper/): In December 2019 Holly and her foal Caspar, and their friends Angel and Cracker were a sorry sight indeed. Having been bred for meat, they were booked onto the one-way lorry to Italy along with many others. Thankfully, they were saved from that fate by another sanctuary. They were then spotted by a couple of lovely ladies, Linda Foster-Smith and Helga Habefellner. Linda and Helga asked us if we could help. The place they were in didn’t have enough food and there was no shelter. The mums and their babies were all very hungry and had been standing in torrential […] - [Holly & Willow](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-holly-willow/): Holly came to Heehaws in January 2019 with her baby Caspar, and their friends Angel and Cracker. Holly was in a terrible state, suffering from extreme neglect. She was very underweight, full of worms, and had bad rain scald. The vet said they were lucky they were rescued when they were or they would have died!  Holly was very nervous of people, she would literally freeze if she needed to be caught for any reason but was such a kind girl for everyone including the vet and Gareth our lovely farrier. After a few months, Caspar and Cracker were separated […] - [Harley](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-harley/): What can we say, this bundle of lively opinionated fluff arrived here at HeeHaws in August with her mum Blossom. She was born on May 18th, 2022 so was only 4 months old. She was dark brown when she arrived but is rapidly turning grey, like her sister Violet and half-brother Basil. Fast-forward to March 23 and Harley is a whopper, almost as big as her mum. She is inquisitive, sassy, has the hugest fluffiest ears, and is a terror, but we love her dearly. Harley would love to have a forever home with other donkeys, so if you think […] - [Fern](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-fern/): Fern arrived here with Woody on the 17th February 2022. They had been found abandoned in a forest. A couple of young girls helped them and found them temporary accommodation. After contacting many other rescue organisations without any success or even replies, they contacted us. The situation was now desperate and we felt we had to help. Within no time at all they arrived here, thin and nervous. Fern was born in 2019 we think, and she desperately needed a foot trim. Her hooves were long, especially the back left one, which had started to go curly. It is taking […] - [Dudley](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-dudley/):  In 2016 there was a post on Facebook about Dudley and his daughter Dolly, who were desperately seeking a new home. Once owned and very much loved and cared for, their elderly owner had developed dementia and, as a result, had forgotten about feeding them or having their hooves trimmed and they were suffering the consequences.  A home had been found for them but it fell through so they were kindly taken into a temporary foster home until something permanent could be found. Once Carina saw the photos and read their story she had to help and so they arrived […] - [Duchesse](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-duchesse/): Duchesse came to HeeHaws with her sister Princesse in April 2019 all the way from Normandy!  It was a difficult journey but they made it eventually, weary and hungry. Another donkey sanctuary in the UK called Flicka asked if HeeHaws could take them and save them from a terrible end. Flicka were kind enough to fund the transport. They had been loved  up until 2012. After that it became a little dark and suffice to say they deteriorated to quite a desperate state. They were emaciated, had lice and worms and were sad, hungry and in need of a lot […] - [Dolly](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-dolly/): In 2016 there was a post on Facebook about Dolly and her daddy Dudley, who were desperately seeking a new home. Once owned and very much loved and cared for, their elderly owner had developed dementia and, as a result, had forgotten about feeding them or having their hooves trimmed and they were suffering the consequences. Of course, we had to help! Dolly gained weight fairly quickly and made herself at home almost immediately! What a darling girl she is. She absolutely loves a cuddle and a brush and is generally involved in everything! Dolly flutters her beautiful eyes to […] - [Bluebelle](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-bluebelle/): Bluebelle arrived with Beatrice in September 2019. We were told she had been very poorly but vet checks were inconclusive. Like Beatrice she was thin, had lice and worms, and was generally unhappy. We started her on a feeding regime alongside Beatrice but after a week she had colic, then another bout, and another. We decided to organise our own tests and it seemed that she had an intolerance to cereal feed and sugar. We felt this could be regulated with the correct feed and changed the type of feed all the donkeys get. This really has been successful all […] - [Blossom](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-blossom/): Blossom arrived here in August 2022 with her 4 and-1/2-month-old foal, Harley. Blossom was one of a herd of 5, living in a state of general neglect. The original owner had left her partner and for over a year he hadn’t taken care of them. The fencing where they were had come down and 3 of them frequently left the paddock searching for food. Blossom stayed in the field, keeping her baby safe. We were involved in the safeguarding and capture of the other 3, which took many weeks, but as soon as we found out about Blossom and Harley, […] - [Billy](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-billy/): Billy arrived with Teddy at HeeHaws in the first week of January 2021. In contrast to Teddy, Billy was carrying quite a few fat pads from having too much lush grass, which is not good for donkeys. We were told that Billy wasn’t used to being handled (he had spent 18 years just being left in his field, and only being caught every now and then for the farrier) and was therefore reported to us as ‘quite wild’. He wasn’t wild at all, just terrified of humans. He has improved since being here and trusts certain people, especially if they […] - [Belle, Merlin and Gandalf](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-belle-merlin-and-gandalf/): UPDATE: Sadly Merlin, passed away in 2019. His obesity and neglect had taken its toll and he lost his battle for life. Belle also passed away in September 2020. The grand old lady that she was, had lost weight and condition despite every effort to give her the best feed. We can only thank Judith and Rod for adopting them and for doing their very best for them. This just leaves cheeky Gandalf the goat who lives with his friend Gary. This was HeeHaws first adoption so we are going to leave the full story here. HeeHaws has had its […] - [Beatrice OLD](https://heehaws.fr/beatrice/): 1979-2023 In May 2019 the wonderful Felicity Taylor at Pegasus in Normandy saved 5 donkeys from the meat man. She initially took them in and then Duchesse and Princesse came here. HeeHaws found the 3rd donkey Charlie a fantastic loving home. Bluebelle and Beatrice stayed with Felicity. Bluebelle, as well as being emaciated like the others was really very poorly.  However, Felicity was full to bursting at Pegasus and had to downsize. Flicka, a fabulous sanctuary in Cornwall were going to take them but asked if we could, as the long journey at their age and in such poor condition […] - [Basil](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-basil/): In August 2022 we were called out on many occasions to help catch 3 donkeys wandering the country lanes. Desperate for food, […] - [Angel and Cracker](https://heehaws.fr/donkey-angel-and-cracker/): In December 2019 Angel and her foal Cracker, her friend Holly and her foal Caspar were a sorry state indeed. Having been bred for meat, they were booked onto the one-way lorry to Italy along with many others. Thankfully, they were saved from that fate by another sanctuary. They were then spotted by a couple of lovely ladies, Linda and Helga, who asked us if we could help. The place they were in didn’t have enough food and there was no shelter. They were then spotted by a couple of lovely ladies, Linda Foster-Smith and Helga Habefellner. Linda and Helga asked us if we could help. The donkeys didn’t have enough food where they were, and there was no shelter. The mums and their babies were all very hungry and had been standing in […] - [Lorraine](https://heehaws.fr/lorraine/): A couple of years ago I came to Heehaws with a friend, to meet Carina and the wonderful donkeys. It’s great to be a small part of the Heehaws family, and to see the dedication and hard work by Carina and all the volunteers who rescue and love these beautiful creatures back to health. ❤️ - [Carol](https://heehaws.fr/carol/): We left the UK and began our French adventure almost 10 years ago. First, we lived in Fonroque and then moved to Thenac, which is where we are now.  We wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.  I started volunteering around 2 years ago and loved it from day one!  I count myself very lucky to have found Hee Haws and to have become a volunteer.  There is nowhere else quite like it! ❤️  - [Donna](https://heehaws.fr/donna/): It’s such a wonderful start to our week coming to Heehaws. We love helping to care for the donkeys on a Monday morning! We appreciate everything that Carina and HeeHaws are striving to achieve. These animals really need all the help they can get and being a  part of the team is extremely rewarding for us!  ❤️ - [Lou](https://heehaws.fr/lou/): I moved to the area with my husband in 2020 following a career in the Police Force in the UK. We didn’t want more animals of our own because we wanted to travel so finding Heehaws and volunteering there has given me my animal ‘fix’ and introduced me to many lovely like-minded people! ❤️ - [Jo](https://heehaws.fr/jo/): My Name is Jo. I have lived in France for nearly 3 years now with my husband and our daft, bouncy boxer dog called Wilf, 2 donkeys Eric & Ernie, and a rescue pony called Lettie!! I  first became aware of HeeHaws through my estate agent while we were looking for our house. She mentioned Carina and the great work that goes on through the charity. Before leaving the UK, I worked as a registered veterinary nurse for 30 years, mainly in a small animal practice working with dogs, cats,  small furries, birds, and reptiles. My first job was at […] - [Kym](https://heehaws.fr/kym/): My name is Kym and I am proud to say that I am a part of the amazing HeeHaws family. The sanctuary is not just for the donkeys, it’s for us too! When you are there, looking out across the fields, listening to the wildlife, you take a breath and realise just how calm and tranquil it is. There seems to be a “magical pull” that draws you in and leaves you wanting more! That’s before you even meet a donkey! You need NO qualifications to volunteer, just a kind nature and a big heart, ready to love these gentle, […] - [Danielle](https://heehaws.fr/danielle/): The aim of Heehaws is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome. My principal role is to help with the rehabilitation phase.  It may be that the donkeys have never been handled correctly or taught to lead or pick up their feet for the farrier.  Sadly, some arrive with body issues or have had handling that has traumatised them.  My job is to work with the donkeys and teach them in a way that builds their trust in humans and confidence in themselves so that these routine tasks are easy for them and for us.  I am always looking for ways to […] - [Caz](https://heehaws.fr/caz/): HeeHaws Fundraising Officer As an animal lover who spent a career in London offices, I’ve been so lucky to move to France and discover the wonderful donkeys – and people! – at Heehaws and become part of this very special family. In the relatively short time I’ve been coming I’ve really enjoyed taking on more responsibility and getting more involved.  We are moving house soon (June 23), and I am in a very fortunate position to be able to adopt 2 very special HeeHaws donkeys called Basil and Wallace. We are so excited! ❤️ - [Aileen](https://heehaws.fr/aileen/): HeeHaws Treasurer and Sponsorship Secretary I’ve always loved animals, but it was only after moving to France in 2018 and visiting HeeHaws that I fell in love with donkeys. They are amazing, as is the HeeHaws Team, and I feel so lucky to be a part of such a lovely thing. As time has gone on I’ve got more and more involved in helping with the admin, which I also enjoy, but not as much as donkey cuddles though! ❤️ - [Fiona](https://heehaws.fr/fiona-2/): HeeHaws Secretary I have a great love for all animals, especially dogs and donkeys. When my family and I moved to the Southwest from Brittany in September 2021, I was thrilled to discover a donkey sanctuary just a short 15-minute drive from our new home.   As someone who works full time in a mentally-intensive job, spending quality time with my dogs and visiting the donkeys at the sanctuary is a wonderful way for me to unwind. While I don’t have the time to volunteer on a regular basis, I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to serve as […] - [Gareth](https://heehaws.fr/team-gareth/): HeeHaws Farrier Having worked in the industry for the last 25 years, Gareth came to France 14 years ago. His client base goes from Cruese right down to the Lot et Garonne. We are so lucky to have him as part of our team, as all the donkeys love him. Even the most terrified of donkeys end up making friends with Gareth after the second or third visit. He has an amazing way with them. He has a calm and kind energy and yet is firm when necessary. Some of the donkeys have had horrendous things happen to them in […] - [Sandra](https://heehaws.fr/team-sandra/): HeeHaws Graphic Designer For most of my working life, I worked as a graphic designer, but in the latter years, I worked for the NHS, in a psychiatric hospital, which was a very rewarding career change. I went from working on the dementia ward as an Assistant Practitioner, before, once again gravitating to creative activities and eventually running the pottery studio in the hospital, my most favourite job ever! My husband and I took early retirement to relocate to France in 2019. I must say it was the best thing we have ever done and wish we had made the […] - [Carina](https://heehaws.fr/meet-the-team-carina/): HeeHaws President Hello there! My name is Carina, and I have always had a passion for animals. From a very young age, I felt a deep and profound need to help them in any way that I could. My journey as an animal rescuer began many years ago when I found a bedraggled and soggy kitten on the side of the road in London. Since that day, I have been dedicated to nursing hundreds of sick and injured animals back to health, and have provided a loving home for many more. For years, I had a dream of starting a […] ## Pages - [Cart](https://heehaws.fr/cart/): Remove item Thumbnail image Product Price Quantity Subtotal Donkey Donation – Rodney 1 € Donkey Donation – Rodney quantity 20 € A Bale of Hay 35 € A Bale of Hay quantity 35 € Sanctuary Donation 1 € Sanctuary Donation quantity 38 € Donkey Donation – Perle 1 € Donkey Donation – Perle quantity 22 € Update Cart Cart Totals Subtotal 115 € Shipping Free shipping Shipping to m, 47120 HHH. My husband Kevin and I took early retirement to relocate to France in 2019. I must say it was the best thing we have ever done and wish we had made the move years ago! However, learning the language, well, it’s a ‘work in progress’. I absolutely love animals and moving here has not only benefitted us, it has enhanced the quality of life for our dogs. We have 2.5 acres and have since rescued and given a home to 2 donkeys, 6 […] - [Angel and Cracker](https://heehaws.fr/holly-and-caspar/): Angel and Cracker In December 2019 Angel and her foal Cracker, her friend Holly and her foal Caspar were a sorry state indeed. The mums and their babies were all very hungry and had been standing in torrential […] - [Hannah](https://heehaws.fr/hannah/): Meet Hannah Hannah went to her first owners, Carole and Ian, when she was a baby of 6 months and stayed there until 2018. She had a charming and dear companion in a horse. They had a good life and were well loved.  Unfortunately, her owners became poorly so it was with a sad heart that they accepted that they couldn’t care for them any longer. When another sanctuary came to take them away Hannah panicked. She would not get into the trailer and so was left, alone, but on the promise that they would come back for her. They […] - [Gareth](https://heehaws.fr/gareth/): Meet Gareth This is Gareth, our wonderful trimmer.
